What you get for $60

Turnaround is typically 3–5 business days from when the lab receives your samples.

The whole fee comes back if you remediate

If your result comes back above standard and you hire us for the cleanup, the $60 is credited in full against the job. Test clean, and you paid $60 to stop wondering.

Why this isn't a hardware-store kit

The instant-read kits you can buy at a big-box store change colour and give you nothing else. No laboratory, no number, no documentation, no standard to compare against. They are prone to false positives from ordinary household chemicals, and nobody — not a lender, not a buyer, not a health department — will accept the result.

Ours is a collection kit. You do the swabbing; an accredited laboratory does the analysis and issues a real measured value in micrograms per 100 cm². That is the same unit and the same standard a professional screen is judged against.

Where the kit is the right choice — and where it isn't

Be clear about the one limitation

Because you collect the samples, there is no independent chain of custody. That makes the kit perfect for finding out where you stand, and unsuitable as evidence in a transaction, an insurance claim or a legal dispute — those need a certified consultant to do the collecting. We would rather tell you that up front than sell you a $60 kit you can't use for the thing you needed it for.

If your kit comes back hot and you then need documentation, we credit the $60 against a professional screen too.

How to use it

  1. Pick your four areas. Instructions walk you through the highest-yield spots — living area wall, primary bedroom wall, HVAC return grille, and one problem area you choose.
  2. Don't clean first. Wiping surfaces down beforehand is the single most common way people ruin their own test.
  3. Glove up, place the template, swab using the enclosed wipe. Seal each sample in its labelled container.
  4. Fill in the chain-of-custody form — which sample came from which room.
  5. Drop the prepaid mailer in the post.
  6. Results in 3–5 business days by email, with a call from us if you want one.

Shipping & delivery area

Colorado addresses only. Shipping, the return mailer and the laboratory relationship are all set up in-state, and Colorado's 0.5 µg/100 cm² standard is what your result is reported against. An out-of-state order would get a number measured against a standard that may not apply where you live, so we don't take them.

The return mailer to the lab is prepaid in every case, regardless of where in Colorado you are.

If you're outside the 50-mile radius we'll quote the shipping before taking payment, so there's no surprise on the receipt. And if you're a long way out, it's worth asking about our professional screen instead — we batch Western Slope and mountain work into routes, and depending on timing a certified collection may cost you less than you'd expect.

FAQ

At-Home Test Kit — $60 questions

What is different about fentanyl contamination?

Fentanyl is far more potent by weight, so the hazard threshold is lower, but it is generally less absorptive into building materials than methamphetamine. In practice, fentanyl decon is often less destructive — more surface treatment and contents handling, less demolition.

Colorado has not adopted a numeric residential clearance standard for fentanyl the way it has for meth, so we work to established occupational and industry guidance and document everything. We will tell you plainly what is regulated and what is best practice.

How much does meth remediation cost in Colorado?

Most residential meth decontamination we take runs $2,450 to $16,200 depending on square footage, contamination level and how much porous material has to come out. A typical 1,500 sq ft home with moderate use contamination lands around $8,550 for base decon; the same house as a former manufacturing site is closer to $16,200, and a large heavy property runs to roughly $28,800.

The Colorado market average for the same work is roughly $15,000–$20,000, and severe cases elsewhere have been quoted past $100,000. We are meaningfully under that — but we are not going to pretend a former lab cleans up for pocket change.

We publish real numbers on our pricing page and run an instant estimator, because the single most common complaint we hear about this industry is that nobody will tell you a price until they are standing in your living room.

Do I have to disclose meth contamination when I sell in Colorado?

Yes. Under Colorado law, once an owner knows a property was used to manufacture methamphetamine or is contaminated above standard, that is a material fact that must be disclosed to buyers. Failing to disclose is a well-travelled route to litigation.

The practical upside: once a property has been remediated and certified to 6 CCR 1014-3 standard, you disclose the contamination and the certification — which is a far better conversation than an unresolved rumour.

When is my price actually final?

Every figure on this site — the rate card, the estimator, anything we discuss on the phone — is a starting point for scoping, not a quote.

Your price is confirmed after two things happen: we review your lab report, so we know the actual contamination level and where it is, and we walk the property in person, so we know what is really coming out and what condition the structure and HVAC are in. Only then do we issue a written, itemized price.

Once that written price is issued, it holds. If something genuinely unforeseen turns up mid-job — asbestos in flooring we are pulling, structural rot, undisclosed hoarding — we stop, document it, and re-quote that portion before proceeding. You will never get a surprise line item after the fact.
